RE: National Recall on Jayco Seneca Super C to be announced

Well at long last I just got my Seneca back from the dealer with the fire damage repaired. Dealer reported to me Jayco was billed 70 man hours and the invoice for the repair totaled $12,000.00. I'm still out money for out of pocket expenses such as airline tickets to pick up the motorhome and hotel rooms that were required for events that were already planned before the fire. As well do you think Jayco should be responsible for some sort of diminished value of the motorhome? I wouldn't buy a used motorhome that had sustained $12,000.00 worth of fire damage even if it's been fixed.

RE: Compatible system with Star Choice?

Your system is not compatible with Star Choice. To the best of my knowledge there are only two dish manufactures that make a dish for Star Choice and neither work while the coach is in motion. Explorer is made in Quebec and I think Motosat in Salt Lake Utah now has a dish that works. Pricey, my Explorer system install was about $4000.00 from Nightline Communications in Edmonton. They are located on 109 Street and about 63 ave. Your system will work with Bell ExpressVU; only problem is it starts to lose channels the further you go into the States. I use mine in Mexico so Star Choice was my only option.

RE: National Recall on Jayco Seneca Super C to be announced

Well I got my recall letter from Jayco today listed as a Transport Canada Recall Campaign number 08-166. Letter states defect exists in years 2005-2008 Seneca 35GS and 34SS models. The fix is to relocate the battery cable from the front battery to the rear battery and to reposition the p-clamp so as not to allow the battery cable to be pinched between the battery and the slide tray. If this condition is not addressed; it may result in a fire, injury or death. Well it caused a fire in mine and I'm still waiting for the fix. You guys in the USA should be getting your recall letter soon.

RE: National Recall on Jayco Seneca Super C to be announced

Where did the wires rub thru ? Mine has a length of black wire loom material over the cables. My first impression when I opened that compartment was- Holy******is that the best they could do for running battery cables that can start a fire. I added some additional wire ties and tried to get the cables from rubbing on the door and also rubbing on the edge of the angle iron battery tray. Mine looked like it would be more likely to rub thru where the cable pack was rubbing the angle iron. If they are all wired as poorly as mine was I can surely believe a fire started. Your description of where my wire loom rubbed thru is much better than mine and is exactly what happened. The loom rubbed thru the protective cover material by rubbing against the edge of the angle iron battery tray and the compartment door when the door was closed causing the fire.

National Recall on Jayco Seneca Super C to be announced

It's a long story but if you own a 2003 to 2008 Jayco Seneca with the house batteries in last compartment right rear there is a national recall about to be announced. This recall will affect about 1700 Seneca's built to date. The wiring harness attached to the batteries may wear thru from rubbing between the metal battery holder and the compartment door. I left my 2007 Jayco Seneca at a southwest USA dealer for some warranty work. After sitting at the dealership for over two weeks while waiting for parts, one afternoon it just caught on fire while parked and turned off. With other units parked all around my Seneca it was lucky for everyone the fire happened when the dealership was open and someone noticed smoke coming from the battery compartment. They opened the compartment and it erupted into flames. The damage was extensive. Upon inspection it was determined that a wiring harness (Jayco calls it a loom) had rubbed thru causing a short and the fire. Both the dealership and I thought Jayco would/should fix the damage under warranty. Unbelievably they refused any responsibility stating to me that and I quote "it is the customers responsibility to ensure that wiring harnesses in concealed compartments are not exposed to chafing". I couldn't believe the pompous attitude of the warranty person at Jayco. I advised him I wanted my unit fixed and I advised him that I was giving him and Jayco one week to reconsider their decision or I would be reporting the problem and the fire to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) with the result being likely to cost them a lot more money than just fixing my unit. This pompous Jayco clerk stated he didn't care what I reported or to who. The week went by and Jayco never called back. I then reported the incident to the NHTSA via email on a Friday and by Monday afternoon they were telephoning me from Washington D.C. The NHTSA asked for pictures of the fire damage and advised me they were going to send out inspectors to view other Seneca models in the Washington D.C. area. Three weeks have gone by and yesterday I received a phone call from the dealer stating Jayco had called him and was going to fix my Seneca at their cost. Today I received a phone call from the NHTSA in Washington to advise me that upon their inspections other Jayco Seneca's had problems with the wiring and Jayco will be issuing a national recall on all affected units. They thanked me for reporting my problem. Now Jayco has a problem with 1700 units instead of just fixing one as I suggested. Hope the Jayco guy still has his job.

RE: Jayco Seneca Springs

JohnInAz, Where did you have your springs replaced? Where you satisfied with the work and how long did it take to do the spring change? The Seneca Jayco dealer in Arizona is World Wide RV in Mesa and they send all their Seneca suspension work to Cliffs Welding on Main east of Val Vista. It's called Cliffs Welding but all they do is suspension and towing products for RV's. The "Welding" in their name dates back to the 1950's when they were a welding shop. Ask for Jim if you phone as he's arranged the spring upgrade on many Seneca's.

RE: RV Dealer Calgary/Edmonton

WHY would you buy in Canada??? Check the dealers in Montana and save a bundle. For example on my Jayco Seneca Western RV wouldn't come down from $160,000.00 even after three months of dealing. After two phone calls to a dealer in the USA I paid $95,000.00 for the same unit. Enough said??? :S

RE: Las Vegas Motor Speedway Motorhome Hill

I sure found that the RV parking at LVMS was dead and boring in comparison to Phoenix Motor Speedway. Was a fun party atmosphere at Phoenix, they also had an onsite store. LVMS was nothing more than dust and dirt. Very poor shuttle transportation. I'll never park my RV there for the race again.

RE: Seneca tire pressure?

I run mine at 95 pounds front and rears. That's what the tag on the drivers door says.

RE: Travelling from Vancouver to Kelowna

The Coquihalla connector between Merritt and Westbank might be to alot for your Dakota. I would take the Princeton route for sure on the way home.
